Ingredients

Scale
  • 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 large apple, peeled, cored, and chopped into small pieces
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease and flour an 8.5 x 4.5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Using an electric handheld or stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat together unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and pale (about 3–4 minutes).
  4. Beat in the large eggs one at a time until fully incorporated.
  5. With the mixer on low speed, add about half of the flour mixture alternately with half of the milk, continuing until everything is combined smoothly.
  6. In another mixing bowl, combine light brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and chopped apple pieces. Set this apple mixture aside.
  7. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar and ground cinnamon to make the topping mixture. Set aside.
  8. Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Top with half of the apple mixture and swirl lightly with a knife or skewer.
  9. Pour the remaining batter on top followed by the remaining apple mixture. Swirl again and sprinkle with the topping mixture.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45 to 55 minutes or until a cake tester comes out clean.
  11. Remove from oven and cool in the pan for about 15–20 minutes. Prepare the glaze while cooling and drizzle over the bread after it's slightly cooled.
