  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup onion (chopped)
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ lb ground pork
  • 1 can (28 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 16 oz full-fat ricotta cheese
  • 9 uncooked lasagna noodles
  • 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté onions and garlic until soft.
  2. Add ground beef and pork, cooking until browned. Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, basil, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 30 minutes until thickened.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese with egg; season with basil, salt, and pepper.
  4. In a baking dish, layer meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella cheese twice. Top with remaining meat sauce and cheese.
  5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cover and bake for 45 minutes; uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Let rest for at least 15 minutes before slicing.
